Ahhhh, Spring is finally here (I hope). And you all know what that means...so are spring ALLERGIES (and pneumonia, cold and flu, and all the other nasties). As someone who is technically "sick" 24/7 (if you haven't read my "About Me," I encourage you to stop by and do so!), I'm no stranger to a hacky cough and stuffy/runny nose. Thanks to my lovely illness, it's commonplace for me to have AT LEAST one lung infection at any given time...not including the MSSA staphylococcus infection I have growing in my lungs all the time. Don't freak--it's normal for CFers (it's actually good if we have staph--it usually ends up eating the other infections that invade!). But this past summer was a rough one for me--right when I was diagnosed in August, I tested positive for 6 lung infections...all at the same time. I was in the hospital for a week, and, when I was finally discharged, was sent home with not one, not two, but THREE lovely antibiotics...which I had no intention of taking whatsoever. My doctors (and parents) fought with me over it for weeks, but I knew abx's did more harm than good...yeah, they kill the infectious bacteria, but they kill the good bacteria, too. And with my digestive issues, my poor little GI system couldn't take anything else. So I vowed to myself I would figure out something natural I could do to kill these nasty infections...and I did! I combined every potent immune-boosting and infection-fighting ingredient I had on hand and created this potent morning shot. And a mere 2 months later, after drinking 1-2 of these bad boys (and you'll understand what I mean when you taste it...HOT DIGGITY DOG it's SPICAY!) per day, at my next clinic visit, I was 100% lung infection-free. 1. 1 T lemon juice
2. 1 T coconut water
3. 1 T apple cider vinegar
4. 2 tsp pure ginger juice
5. 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper*
6. 4 drops Oreganol (or Young Living oregano essential oil)**
1. Pretty simple--add all ingredients to a small glass and knock it back (it's easier if you do it all at once!)
NOTES: *yes, a full 1/4 tsp. Yes, it's insanely spicy. But yes, you need to put the full 1/4 tsp in there. You'll survive ;) (and your body will thank you later!)
**Either use the Oreganol brand oregano oil or use Young Living brand therapeutic-grade pure essential oil. If you're using the essential oil, it's IMPERATIVE to use Young Living brand and not another brand. Email Anna for more information or to order oils.
